Volunteers Terms of Participation in the Coastal and Underwater Clean up Activities of AEGEAN REBREATH S.C.E.

The coastal and underwater clean up activities carried out with the initiative of “AEGEAN REBREATH S.C.E.” (hereinafter “AEGEAN REBREATH”) and the collaboration and/or participation of other organisations from Greece and abroad aim at protecting and restoring the marine environment, informing the public and raising awareness on environmental sustainability issues and on recycling and upcycling of litter and other materials. By submitting the declaration of participation form, the volunteer unreservedly agrees to the terms and conditions regulating the participation in such activities, as follows:

1. General information

In order to participate in the activities of “AEGEAN REBREATH”, the volunteer must fill in and submit the online declaration of participation form on the www.aegeanrebreath.org website. Fields requesting name, age, gender, telephone number and email address are mandatory. The above personal data are collected and stored by “AEGEAN REBREATH” exclusively for the purposes of providing information and updates, and for preparing volunteers for the content of each activity.

2. Compliance

The volunteer must observe the terms of participation and comply with the recommendations made by the organisers and coordinators of each activity. In particular:

  • At the coastal clean up activities, the volunteer takes personal protective measures against solar radiation (i.e. hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.), uses appropriate clothing and footwear, make sure he/she has sufficient water and food supplies, and follows the coordinator’s recommendations to ensure the smooth flow of works during each activity.
  • At the underwater clean up activities, the volunteer complies with the safety standards regulating the internationally accepted practices for scuba diving, and follows closely the coordinator’s recommendations to ensure the smooth flow of works during each activity. In addition, the volunteer is responsible for and takes care of his/her personal equipment, alerting the coordinator immediately and in any suitable way of any risk, damage, impairment, irregularity or malfunction that may pose a risk for the life, health and bodily integrity of both the volunteer and the other members of the team

For volunteering in underwater clean-up activities, please read carefully the relevant document with details and useful advice here.

3. Participation

  • Participation in the coastal clean up activities is allowed to men and women above the age of 18, as well to children/teenagers between the age of 12-18, when the latter are either accompanied by their parents or guardians, or provide a written consent from their parents or guardians allowing them to participate in each activity.
  • Participation in the underwater clean up activities is allowed to men and women above the age of 18, on condition that they provide a relevant certification from a certified diving centre according to international standards and declare that they have concluded a minimum of 30 diving sessions.

4. Statements

The volunteer states that he/she is in a good health condition that allows him/her to participate in each activity. For under-aged volunteers, such statement must be included in the declaration of consent provided by their parents or guardians. As regards specifically to the underwater clean up activities, the volunteer states that he/she maintains the appropriate physical fitness and does not suffer from any medical condition that is either incompatible with diving or might prevent him/her from meeting the diving requirements with safety. In any case, all volunteers participate in the coastal and underwater clean up activities on their own responsibility.

5. Consent

By submitting the declaration of participation form, the volunteer (and, in case of under-aged volunteers, their parents or guardians through their declaration of consent) consent to being photographed and/or filmed by “AEGEAN REBREATH” and/or other collaborating organisations, and unreservedly grants his/her permission to “AEGEAN REBREATH” to publish, post, promote and/or reproduce any audiovisual material created during each activity for promotional, informative, statistical or educational purposes and, in general, for any purpose relating to the initiatives, synergies or activities of “AEGEAN REBREATH”, in any mass media or social media, either in printed or in electronic form, etc., whichever may be decided each time.

6. Disclaimer

Before, during and after carrying out the coastal and underwater clean up activities, “AEGEAN REBREATH” takes promptly all safety measures required by law and the commonly-held business practices, and makes sure they are closely and fully observed. “AEGEAN REBREATH” will not be held liable for any loss of life, injury or damage caused on the volunteer’s health or bodily integrity because of accident during an activity. Finally, “AEGEAN REBREATH” maintains the right to deny a volunteer’s participation in an activity, if it considers that he/she does not meet the necessary requirements or does not comply with the terms of participation in the activity.
