The beginning of 2021 found the representatives of our organization in the island of Corfu for just six hours! Through this short trip, Aegean Rebreath and the representatives of the Municipality of Central Corfu aimed at finalizing the consultation that started last May concerning the installation of the first marine waste collection station in the island!

We were really happy meeting again our friends in the Municipality to discuss the broader framework of cooperation and the activities that will be developed in the region. Following the signing of a memorandum of cooperation, we exchanged views about the work plan and the necessary prerequisites in order to ensure the success of the project. It was really inspiring the fact that both the Mayor and her associates were absolutely determined to adopt innovative practices and address long term challenges.

We then visited different parts of the island in order to further develop the content of our interventions that will take place within the following months. We also met and discussed with fishermen the problems they face by the marine pollution and identified their determination to be part of the solution.

Shortly afterward, we departed for Athens with a common promise. We will soon be back to the island of Corfu with the aim of immediately starting our joint project!

However, we would like to warmly thank the Mayor Mrs. Hydraiou for her support, the Deputy Mayor Mrs. Tzanne and Mr. Dimoulis for their initial efforts to build this partnership.
