Happy new year from the Atlantic coast

Happy new year from the Atlantic coast and more specifically from Namibia! Some of our members are on vacation there and they did not miss the opportunity to speak with the fishing community at Lüderitz Port in Southwest Namibia. “I have been working as a fisherman for 25 years. During those years we have been finding tremendous quantities of trash both in the Atlantic ocean and in parts of the Mediterranean. To date we have treated the sea as a dump. The good thing is that the fishing community in Namibia, which has one of the most productive fishing industries in Africa, has understood the problem and is now behaving differently. The fishermen are bringing the waste back to the ports and control mechanisms have been put in place”, says the captain of a large Spanish fishing boat. It is quite clear that the sea unites us all and only by finding common solutions, we can live in harmony!
